BikyBiky has created this award winning ergonomically designed safety vest designed for kids that are learning to cycle. Designed with a safety handle on the back of the vest, this harness will aid in the early stages of grasping pedaling.
Although the harness is said to ‘help your child find their own balance on a bike and boost their confidence learning to cycle’ (BikyBiky, 2018), at Popcycle we disagree. We don’t believe in using yet another mechanism to create any form of false dependency when learning to ride a bike and would not suggest this product as a tool to teach a child to ride a bike. We rather support the idea that it may be helpful in ‘In the event of any major wobbles or incidents’ (BikyBiky, 2018). It’s common that rookie cycling errors can take place at the early stages of learning to ride a bike, so with this vest you can simply lift up your child safely with the handle, preventing any painful scrapes and falls and giving you confidence as your child rides through urban landscapes. The BikyBiky cycling vest is Ergonomically designed with soft to touch materials combined with padding to comfortably support your child. With the harness fitting snugly around your child’s torso, you can simply walk or run, in an upright position, alongside your cycling child within reach of the padded handle on the back of the vest.
The BikyBiky cycling safety vest is professionally tested to rigorous standards to ensure it will hold a weight of up to 50 kg or 7½ stone. The BikyBiky has even been endorsed by the Road Safety Campaign in the Netherlands (VVN) and the Dutch equivalent of “The Automobile Association” (ANWB). The construction of the vest uses machine washable (30°C) materials which provide durability and padding in all areas to prevent “cutting in” from the strong straps both for your child and you. The waist belt is doubly secured with both very strong velcro strips as well as a safety belt with quick release safety clip making sure that the vest will not open accidentally.
